SHOW OFF YOUR PATRIOTISM WITH A 20 FT FLAGPOLE

A 20’ flag pole is the most popular residential flagpole height - tall enough to clear the roofline on single and two-story homes, visible from the street, and perfectly proportioned for most lot sizes. We carry options for every property here at HD Flagpoles, giving you total control over things like:

  • Halyard system: An external halyard flagpole is pulled by hand using an outside rope. An internal halyard flagpolehides the rope inside with a winch. It’s tamper-resistant and looks cleaner, but it costs more. We carry both styles.

  • Construction type: Telescoping (collapses before storms, lightest weight), one-piece flag pole for house(permanent, heavier gauge), sectional flag pole (3-piece, lifetime warranty), or professional tapered (larger diameter, higher wind rating).

  • Finish: Satin, clear anodized, bronze, or black. Match your home or let the pole stand on its own.

WHY SHOP WITH HD FLAGPOLES?

We only carry flag poles made in USA - no imports or shortcuts, ever. Our HD Telescoping 20' is our most affordable option at under $500, but it’s still built from 6005-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum with an 85 mph flagged wind rating at just 24 lbs. It collapses in less than five minutes when a storm rolls in, and the built-in anti-theft system keeps the pole locked to the ground sleeve. It’s backed by an incredible 10-year warranty.

You can also compare professional tapered models for a wider 4-inch butt diameter and a stronger 110 mph wind rating if the property needs something with more backbone. There is no shortage of options at HD Flagpoles. The common theme, though, is that every pole ships as a complete kit with a free American flag, topper ball, ground sleeve, and all hardware included. Your order itself ships free, too!

IS A 20 FT FLAGPOLE TALL ENOUGH FOR MY HOME?

Yes, a 20 ft flag pole clears the roofline on most single and two-story houses. It’ll be visible from the curb without overpowering the yard. Stepping up to 25 or 30 feet gives you better visibility if your lot is large or set well back from the road.

WHAT SIZE FLAG DO I NEED WITH A 20 FT FLAGPOLE?

A 3'x5' or 4'x6' works best. Our HD Telescoping 20' includes a free 4'x6' American flag. General sizing rule: the flag's fly should be 1/4 to 1/3 of the pole height.

HOW MANY FLAGS CAN YOU FLY ON A 20 FT FLAGPOLE?

Most residential setups fly one. You can stack two vertically but the U.S. flag is always on top (per the Flag Code). We just think a single flag keeps the proportions cleaner on a 20-footer. You don’t have as much room to work with as you would with, say, a 40-80 foot pole.

HOW DEEP SHOULD A 20 FT FLAGPOLE BE IN THE GROUND?

4 feet (10% of the pole height plus 2 feet). We include a ground sleeve sized to the pole that you can set in concrete and allow to cure before mounting. It’s super straightforward.

HOW MUCH CONCRETE IS NEEDED FOR A 20 FT FLAGPOLE?

Expect to 1-5 bags of concrete for a 10-12 inch wide hole at 4 feet deep. Having an extra bag on hand never hurts.

SHOULD I LOWER THE FLAG DURING HARSH WEATHER?

The U.S. Flag Code says the flag shouldn't be displayed during inclement weather unless it's an all-weather flag. Our nylon and polyester flags handle normal outdoor conditions, but the telescoping 20 ft flag pole in our collection collapses in under five minutes so you can bring the whole setup down fast if a serious storm is coming.
